Tip of the Day: Watch ‘Repo Man’

by Eubie on May 3, 2013

repomanRepo Man (1984) is the quintessential (overused? maybe) movie of the 1980s, and a favorite here at the HUB. It has everything: punks, alien-government-coverup conspiracies, Harry Dean Stanton, mad scientists, ultra-violence, meaning-of-life quotable quotes, and a punk soundtrack that’s guaranteed to make you want to tear your T-shirt, shave a your head into a mohawk, and stab a safety pin through your cheek. Yep, this film will change your life, and make your day, which is why today’s tip is to run to your local kitschy vid shop (here in UB Country, ours is Wild and Woolly Video), pick up a copy, and slam! Pay particularly close attention to anything that comes out of the mouth of Stanton’s character, Bud. Just a taste:

Bud: “Never broke into a car. Never hot-wired a car, kid. Never broke into a trunk. ‘I shall not cause harm to any vehicle, nor the personal contents thereof, nor through inaction let that vehicle or the personal contents thereof come to harm.’ It’s what I call the ‘Repo Code,’ kid. Don’t forget it; etch it in your brain. Not many people got a code to live by anymore. Hey, look at that, look at those assholes over there. Ordinary fucking people, I hate ’em.”

Words to live by, Bud, words to live by.
