Tip of the Day: Walk, Don’t Run…

by Eubie on May 4, 2013

Today’s tip is simply this: go for a walk. The recommended daily allowance for moderate exercise is 10,000 steps, though we advise building up to it if you haven’t been taking regular strolls around the neighborhood lately. On average, sedentary folks usually knock out between 2,000 and 3,000 steps a day going from the fridge to the toilet to the car to work, etcetera, etcetera. So, if you want to check ‘exercise’ off your list of things to do, you’re going to have to do some intentional walking. We further recommend 1) walking briskly, 2) purchasing a cheap pedometer (there are more expensive models that link you to your computer to track your progress and store your data for future analysis), and 3) loading an e-book onto your iPod Shuffle, or whatever mobile listening devise you have handy, and learn something while you get healthier. Of course, you might want to hum a tune while you walk. In that case, we recommend I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)!
