Rise of the PANKers

by Eubie on May 12, 2013

While our attention generally is focused on bachelors, we do like to occasionally veer off message to keep you update on what’s going on on the other side of the isle. This tidbit on the growing number (and influence) of Professional Aunts No Kids (or PANKs… though we’re partial to PANKers) looks at these women primarily from an economic standpoint, zeroing on their tastes, spending, and how the those two mesh together to influence (not enough, apparently) advertising and marketing. For us, the factoid that stood out was that their sheer numbers make them a demographic group on a par with the African-American community, and that is surprising. How this legion of (mostly) single, childless women will influence other aspects of society, politics, culture, the media, and, of course, the economy, remains to be seen (or discussed in another article). But as we’ve been saying all along, there is a growing number of men out there who are either divorced, separated, or have never been married, so it stands to reason that there would be a like number of women in the same boat.
