Tip of the Day: Get Busy

Anyone who’s spent time in stir will tell you of the cathartic power of the film The Shawshank Redemption. So good is this movie that it ranks #1 on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) with an average score of 9.3 out of a possible 10 by nearly a million raters who cast votes. Convicts and inmates (yes, there’s a difference) love this movie because it romanticizes penitentiary life, allows the main character to escape to a real place with a mythical name–Zihuatanejo–and provides lovely closure by seeing the evil bulls and the fiendish Warden Samuel Norton get their comeuppance. It’s a movie filled with beautiful dialogue, especially some really catchy phrases uttered by the number #2 man in the Yard, Red, good buddy of our protagonist, Andy Dufresne. But Ang by far has the line that resonates: “It just comes down to this: get busy living, or get busy dying.” Today, decide whatever that expression means to you and take a step in either direction. We recommend the ‘get busy living’ exhortation. After all, you’ll be dead someday. Good luck!
